Research into ‘InnoVET’, a VET innovation initiative in Germany: “Shaping the Future: Innovating for excellent vocational education and training (InnoVET)”
Project duration: January 2022 – December 2025
Overview:
The ITiB project aims to determine over-arching structures for projects focussed on digital transformation and to develop competence profiles for professionals working in vocational education and training (VET). For this purpose, ITiB researches the innovation and development processes of 17 different pilot projects, all of which have been part of the framework of the InnoVET innovation competition since 2020 and are developing and testing VET-related qualifications. The overall theme for the concepts is “Shaping the future – Innovating for excellent vocational education and training (VET)”. The German Ministry for Education and Research is funding this initiative with a total amount of 82 million Euros. ITiB’s main research focus is on designing and transferring innovation processes, as well as a achieving a deep understanding of the corresponding underlying processes. Insights, concepts and prototype developments from the InnoVET projects will also be made available to VET more widely. One of the approaches followed in the project is Design-Based Research, with a focus on identifying relevant design features, shaping innovation and transfer processes and generating design-based insights.
ITiB is led jointly by a group of professors at the Department of Human Resource and Business Education at the University of Paderborn: namely Professor Dr. H.-Hugo Kremer, Professor Dr. Marc Beutner, Professor Dr. Tobias Jenert and Professor Dr. Peter F. E. Sloane. They each contribute to ITiB their respective expertise and experience with reference to transfer processes. A group of early-career researchers at the Department, led by Dr. Desiree Daniel-Söltenfuß und Dr. Marie-Ann Kückmann, is responsible for managing and organising the project.
