Under the motto "Data-driven Industry - Shaping a New Era", numerous partners from industry and science will be presenting innovative solutions at the Hannover Messe under the umbrella of the Industry 4.0 platform's joint stand. Paderborn University is also represented with the "Decide4ECO" and "NeMo.bil" projects, both of which are sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. The experts will be available for personal discussions in Hall 8 at Stand D26 during the week from Monday, 31 March to Friday, 4 April.

The joint stand of the Industry 4.0 platform shows how comprehensively the new era is already being shaped by industry and science - from essential technical principles to interactive exhibits. There are three focal points: the "Manufacturing-X" initiative, the "8ra Initiative" and the "Mobility 4.0" topic area.

Making industrial value chains more competitive, resilient and sustainable

The Heinz Nixdorf Institute at Paderborn University is working on simplifying data exchange in industry with "Manufacturing-X". In the "Decide4ECO" project, the Chair of Product Creation is developing solutions for evaluating the sustainability of products during the development phase. To this end, data from software systems is shared in data rooms via innovative connectors. Depending on requirements, key figures such as the CO2 footprint, the recycling rate or water utilisation can be calculated flexibly. Prof. Dr. Iris Gräßler's team is developing a reference development process, algorithms for calculating key figures, AI-based analyses of the effects of development changes and concepts for evaluating data quality. Various demonstrators such as a "data ecosystem editor" and an AI chatbot will illustrate the project at the trade fair stand.

Data ecosystems for the mobility sector

As part of the "NeMo.bil" project, the participants want to develop and prototype a mobility system for demand-responsive passenger and freight transport. To this end, an innovative approach with two automated vehicle types is being pursued: Swarms of small vehicles serve the first and last few miles and join together on longer routes to form a convoy pulled by a larger vehicle. The innovative system is intended to enable resource-saving individual local public transport. Paderborn University is responsible for the design of the support structures and coupling interfaces, the adaptation and further development of the drive and charging lines as well as the digital planning and design of the swarm system. The Lightweight Automotive Design Group (LiA), the Chair of Power Electronics and Electrical Drive Technology (LEA) and the SICP - Software Innovation Campus Paderborn are involved. At the exhibition stand, visitors will learn how "NeMo.bil" addresses the challenges of current public transport, particularly in rural regions, and how the project is set to become scalable in the future.
