Developing quality of teaching and professional development in mathematics education
Overview
QuaMath is a program of the German Centre for Mathematics Teacher Education (DZLM) and is funded by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK). QuaMath aims to help strengthen mathematics education in Germany by supporting 10,000 schools and their teachers in the development of their mathematics teaching through professional development, appropriate materials and support from DZLM-qualified facilitators.
The QuaMath program is set to run for ten years in two phases. In phase 1 (2023-28), professional development structures will be established, professional development modules for teachers and qualification modules for facilitators will be developed and researched, facilitators will be qualified for the first modules and the first cohorts of teachers will be trained. Phase 1 therefore focuses on the development of professional development and qualification and local impact research.
At Paderborn University, the modules 'Numbers and Operations 1' and 'Early Mathematical Education at Vocational Schools' (Julia Bruns), 'Diagnosis and Fostering' (Uta Häsel-Weide) and 'Analytical Geometry' (Lena Wessel) are being developed and researched.
