The attractiveness of Paderborn's sports campus is also reflected in the CHE ranking

The University Sports "Hochschulsport" and the Department of Exercise and Health at Paderborn University have expanded the range of outdoor exercise facilities just in time for the start of summer. Professionally designed facilities for trend sports such as padel tennis and streetball enable sports to be played in the best possible conditions. At an opening event, which was co-organised by students from Dr Hilke Teubart's project seminar on sports didactics and pedagogy as well as the theory of sports and movement fields, students and teaching staff from Paderborn University tried out the new streetball court, among other things.

‘We like to pick up on new trends and respond to students’ wishes. A wide range of university sports is not a matter of course and has always characterised Paderborn University,’ says Head of University Sports Ulrich Kussin. During the afternoon of action for the outdoor campus extension, Kussin also thanked the university administration for its active support in developing the study conditions in Paderborn in a targeted manner. A calisthenics facility, where students can do weight training using their own body weight, complements the outdoor campus offer alongside classic sports such as football, tennis and beach volleyball. ‘A good sports programme is one of the reasons why young people decide to study in a city. And in this respect, Paderborn University is constantly playing in the premier league - figuratively speaking,’ emphasises Dennis Kehne, Deputy Head of University Sports.

The conditions for doing sport are honoured by the students, as the results of the CHE ranking, which is the most comprehensive comparison of universities in the German-speaking world, show. ‘In Sports Science, we are among the top universities in Germany in the “Sports Facilities and Infrastructure” category,’ says a delighted Prof Dr Jochen Baumeister, Managing Director of the Department of Exercise and Health. ‘We have developed with great vigour in recent years, but we don't want to rest on our laurels; we want to continue to work together with university sport in the future to maintain and, at best, expand our leading positions.’
