digGer – Open education in German studies – Project phase I

Overview

The digGer project focuses on the development of modular, multimedia-supported learning arrangements embedded in three operational scenarios. These consist of seven interrelated subject areas to promote media technology, media communication and media reflexive skills for philologists, especially German studies or German language didactics, text, interaction and discourse research.

The learning material provided by the digGer-project is intended to support teachers and learners in the “research-based learning” paradigm in using the computer as a professional working tool in scientific practice and to promote an understanding of computer-supported communication in various socio-cultural contexts.

The digGer project is based on concept that follows current didactic research. The subjects of learning are language and communication in digital environments as well as methods of computer-aided language and communication research. The learning arrangement clusters are based on the concept of “research-based learning,” which focuses on the research process in university teaching.

The project is being implemented as part of a consortium consisting of the universities of Siegen, Paderborn and Duisburg-Essen. The seven online courses that have already been completed from the first project phase are available for download from the NRW-wide online state portal for studying and teaching, Orca.NRW.
