Automotive VLC - Open Hardware Project Visible Light Communication (1st project phase)

Overview

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are becoming more and more the primary source of illumination in different indoor and outdoor environments. Besides their illumination function, their ability for fast switching enables a new kind of application, namely Visible Light Communication (VLC). VLC uses the multi-THz wide, license free visible light bands of the electromagnetic spectrum. This advantages make the system interesting for many applications.

The focus of our research in this filed is Car-to-Car and Car-to-Infrastructure application. Together with the HNI research group Distributed Embedded Systems (Prof. Dressler) we developed circuits and modulation schemes for this field of application.

Our circuits and PCBs from this project are available as open hardware. Due to our flexible approach, the hardware is useable for all applications in the field of visible Light Communication.

This 1.3 MHz Transmitter is a free hardware; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.
