EViVE - European Values in Vocational Education
Overview
The project “EViVE - European Values in Vocational Education” is internationally oriented and is funded by the EU's Lifelong Learning Program in the area of 'Leonardo da Vinci Partnerships'. The project duration is 24 months.
The EViVE project partners are seven vocational training institutions from Germany, Great Britain, Romania, France, Bulgaria and Turkey.
The seven EViVE partners from six countries exchange experiences between theory and practice in the field of vocational education and training. The participating practitioners are actively involved in measures or courses in which both (vocational) skills and values are taught.
An increasing change in values and pluralism can be observed in Europe, which means that young people are not always aware of fixed orientations and structures. They grow up in increasingly heterogeneous environments that contain a multitude of individual, sometimes competing values. Such trends or tendencies towards pluralization arise, for example, due to increasing globalization. Especially when it comes to shaping a socially responsible and self-determined life, orientation towards a binding value system is important and provides support in personal, professional and social issues. Several studies on European values, which are generally similar in design - such as the EVS - European Value Study (see www.europeanvaluesstudy.eu) - are already available. EViVE refers directly to the Atlas of European Values (see Halman 2011) and is based on its key findings.
Objective
The main objective of EViVE is to design and reflect on a common European curriculum that takes as its starting point the values shared in Europe, such as democracy, gender issues, teamwork, etc.
Over the course of the two-year project, the partners will examine different approaches to career choice in their education systems and the challenges they face in their countries and in Europe. A critical examination of the theoretical and practical approaches to values education is also part of the project. Last but not least, evaluative support is aimed at mapping and making accessible subjective theories on European values and their communication via structural design techniques.
