About David Bartlitz

David Bartlitz is a fully qualified lawyer and economist. As a scholarship holder of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation he studied law at the FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg and business administration and economics with a focus on economics and quantitative methods at the FernUniversität in Hagen (final thesis: ‘The relevance of macroeconomic information for explaining the US Dollar/Euro exchange rate – an empirical analysis’). After graduating, he received a doctorate in law from the FAU as a doctoral scholarship holder of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation with a thesis on corporate law (‘The Liability of the Limited Partner Based on Corporate Law Principles’). He then completed his legal clerkship and the second state examination in the district of the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court.

From 2013 to 2018, he was research assistant at FAU, and from 2018 to 2023, he was assistant professor at the same institution, as well as managing director of the Research Center for Banking and Capital Market Law in Northern Bavaria and head of the third-party funded research group Digital Fact Research in Law. In winter semester 2023/24, he took over the Chair of Civil Law, Commercial, Corporate and Economic Law at FAU as a substitute. Also in winter semester 2023/2024, David Bartlitz completed his habilitation at FAU with an interdisciplinary work combining economic, mathematical and legal methods (‘Abuse of the Power of Representation as an Economic Institution’) and acquired the academic teaching licence for the subjects of civil law, commercial, corporate and economic law, law and economics and roman law.

Since summer semester 2024, David Bartlitz holds the Chair of German and International Corporate Law at Paderborn University.

Since autumn semester 2024/2025, David Bartlitz has been a permanent visiting professor in the Department of Private Law at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences (JÁK) at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest. He gives lectures there every semester on European Competition Law and European Capital Market Law.

Research

Research Interests

In terms of methodology, David Bartlitz works primarily with  empirical legal studies (‘Digital Fact Research in Law’) and historical legal analysis.

In terms of subject matter, his research focuses on corporate law, banking law, capital market law and competition law.

Teaching

Teaching Areas

David Bartlitz is particularly committed to modern teaching that is geared to the needs and interests of students. In didactic terms, he therefore places a special emphasis on activating and inclusive forms of teaching (in particular on the basis of inverted classroom concepts and the inclusion of social media).
