Sports economics, mechanical engineering, computer engineering or teacher training? Paderborn University currently offers around 70 courses of study and 166 subject combinations for teacher training – making students spoilt for choice. Campus Day on Monday 15 January gives prospective students an opportunity to find out more about all of these options: from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the university will be throwing open its doors and inviting school pupils and prospective students to explore the campus and above all its study opportunities, as well as talk to teachers and current students. There is no need to register in advance – full details are available at the event website. Campus Day is part of the NRW-wide ‘study orientation weeks’.
There is a wide-ranging programme on offer: teachers will present the different courses of study and some will even open up their regular classes so that prospective students can attend a real lecture. In addition, the Student Advice Centre will offer presentations on study options, admission requirements and opportunities to find out more about individual courses of study via taster sessions. In the university foyer, the Student Advice Centre will also be joined by various students from different course of study, as well as staff from the student union’s educational funding (BAföG) department, on hand to chat to visitors. Under the motto of ‘a uni for all’, this opportunity is also specifically aimed at prospective students with health issues, disabilities or chronic diseases so that they can find out more about the study environment and support options. Various campus and laboratory tours round off the services available.
‘A Campus Day is a perfect opportunity to gain a wide range of information on and insights into studying with us at Paderborn University, all in a single day’, Student Advice Centre employee Cinderella Welz notes. ‘Attendees can use our app to find out the programme in advance and create a favourites list at home. This means that on Campus Day, they just have to access the app and can start gathering information onsite and getting help with their study choices’, Welz explains.
