The semester courses take place during the lecture period and comprise 120 teaching units of 45 minutes each.

Start of enrolment (in PAUL) and placement test (in KOMO): 17th March, 2025
End of enrolment (in PAUL) and placement test (in KOMO): 8th April, 2025
Start of course: 21st April, 2025 (Please note that due to the public holiday, no teaching will take place on 21st April.)
Course end date: 18th July, 2025
Placement
- If you already have some knowledge of German but have not yet completed a German course at Paderborn University, you must take a placement test before enrolling.
- The test takes place online via KOMO: detailed instructions.
- Please note the deadlines (see section "Dates" above).
Note: If you have no knowledge of German, you do not need a placement test and can register for A1.1 directly in PAUL.
Enrolment
- Please register in PAUL under "Language course": detailed instructions.
- If you have been assigned to a course but do not wish to take part in the course, please deregister from the course.
Note: If you have not been allocated a place on the course and are having problems with your standard period of study as a result, please send an e-mail to deutschkurse@upb.de. Please state in the e-mail,
(1) which degree programme you are enrolled in
(2) and why it was not possible to enrol on time.
