DELE

The Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) are official certificates of Spanish language proficiency awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education.

A1

Provides evidence of the following basic knowledge of the Spanish language: everyday expressions and the understanding and use of simple sentences relating to concrete basic needs (introducing yourself and others, asking others questions about themselves, e.g. where they live, who they know or what things they have, and responding to questions of this kind).

A2

Provides evidence of the following basic knowledge of Spanish: understand everyday, simple and frequently used phrases and expressions related to different basic needs (giving basic information about themselves and their family, shopping, hobbies, leisure activities, work, etc.).

B1

Provides proof of basic knowledge of the Spanish language, which is necessary for oral and written communication and allows you to hold simple, structured conversations.

B2

Proof of very good general knowledge of the Spanish language required in everyday situations.

C1

Certifies that the candidate has a very good knowledge of the language, which enables them to communicate in any situation, even if it involves abstract or complex topics.

C2

Is proof of excellent knowledge of the Spanish language that enables communication at an advanced level.

  • The DELE language certificates are recognised all over the world.
  • They are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  • They are recognised internationally by public and private educational institutions as well as private companies and chambers of commerce.
  • In Spain, they can provide access to universities, public and private institutions and the civil service.
  • The validity of the language certificates is unlimited.
  • They can facilitate the receipt of scholarships and entry into professional life and the education system.
  • They facilitate international access to the academic and professional fields.
  • They confirm the ability to use the Spanish language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
  • The DELE language certificates complement the language curriculum in educational institutions in some countries.
  • They serve as proof for Spanish-speaking nationals living in Germany.

Which levels can I take exams for at the ZfS?

In the winter semester 2024/25, examinations are offered for levels B1 and C1. If you are interested in other levels, please contact Tamara Gómez Pérez.

The registration period for the exams in November 2024 runs from 09.09. to 09.10.2024.

What requirements must be met in order to register?

Please note that the following requirements must be met in order to take a DELE exam:

  • Presentation of an identity card or passport (copy) proving nationality of a country whose official language is not Spanish.
  • Nationals of a Spanish-speaking country can enrol if two of the following conditions are met:
  • - Spanish is the mother tongue of only one parent
    - Spanish is not the language originally learnt
    - Spanish is not the usual colloquial language
    - Spanish was not wholly or partly the language of instruction in primary and/or secondary school
  • The registration documents and the examination fees must be received by the Centre for Language Teaching by the registration deadline.

When can I register for the next exam?

The Language Centre offers two examination dates per year (in May and November). There is a fixed registration period for each exam date. The registration period for the exams in November 2024 runs from 09.09. to 09.10.2024.

How can I register for a DELE exam?

To register, please submit the following documents in full by email to tamara.gomez.perez@upb.de and in cc to zfs@upb.de

  • Completed registration form. The registration form for download must be filled out legibly in capital letters and signed. (Can also be filled out digitally, do not forget your signature!)
  • Photocopy of identity card or passport showing first and last name, nationality, place and date of birth. The information on the registration form must match this data. The first name and surname listed on the registration form will be used in the same spelling for the official certificate.
  • Proof of bank transfer for payment of the examination fees. The fees must be transferred to the following account before registration:
