Career Spotlight: From PhD to science management - A career path for me?

After completing a doctorate, researchers in qualification phases have a wide range of career paths open to them: In addition to preparing for a university professorship, science management, business and politics also offer attractive prospects. As part of the event series ‘Career Spotlight: From PhD to...’, participants will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the various career paths after the doctorate and to talk to people who have followed them. The Career Spotlight on 4 July 2024 will focus on the topic of science management. After an input on the professional field of science management by Dr Anda-Lisa Harmening (GKW), Laura Maring (Equal Opportunities - Diversity Officer) and Dr Alexandra Wiebke (Head of the Academic Career Development Unit) will provide insights into their respective day-to-day work as science managers.

The guiding questions will be:

- In which areas within the university is science management located?

- What does the day-to-day work of a science manager look like?

- How do you get started in science management?

- Which further education formats are recommended?

- What opportunities/challenges arise within the professional field?

Following the substantive input, there will be the opportunity to ask questions, but also to exchange ideas and network with other doctoral candidates and postdocs.

Registration and enquiries are possible until 3 July 2024 via e-mail to gradz@kw.uni-paderborn.de. The room details will be provided after registration.

Speakers are Dr Anda-Lisa Harmening (GKW), Laura Maring (Equal Opportunities - Diversity Officer) and Dr Alexandra Wiebke (Head of the Academic Career Development Unit).
